Join NM Wild's Wilderness Rangers, Becky Fitzpatrick and Ezra Sage, for their volunteer campsite rehabilitation day!
This is an overnight event. The day will kick off with a moderate 4-mile hike along the Winsor Trail to the beautiful La Vega meadow. Participants will assist rangers in locating, documenting, and dispersing illegal campsites and fire rings, effectively restoring the meadow and leaving it in a healthier state. After a delicious backcountry dinner cooked by our rangers, participants will camp overnight. In the morning, after breakfast (which is also provided), participants will continue work up the Winsor Trail toward the junction with Skyline Trail.
For those who wish to get out for the day, but do not want to camp overnight, we will provide opportunities for day work. Please just reach out and let us know your preference.
We will meet at the Santa Fe Ski Basin parking lot, on the west side near the Winsor Trail Kiosk, at 9:00am. Breakfast will be included, but please remember to pack your own lunch. Please note, the Forest service requires anyone participating in backcountry work to wear the following: gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, and long pants. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THESE ITEMS!
Please contact our Wilderness Rangers directly to RSVP.
We hope to see you all there!
