Join NM Wild's Bernard Tibbetts and Santa Fe's Wilderness Seeker hiking group for a wonderful hike through the Santa Fe National Forest and trail stewardship on Saturday, September 1st. Participants will meet in the Atalaya Lower Trailhead parking lot at 7:00am. From there the group will head up the grassy road, following a stream up the canyon for the first mile. The trail drops to a small drainage to the left and starts to climb through the forest. Throughout the hike the group will observe and note places where trail work will be needed. Bernard might bring some pruners and do some very light clearing if helpful in the short-term. In the last mile, the trail becomes considerably steeper and narrower, switching up the southwest slope on the mountain. Just before the summit, the trail will join with Baldy Trail 175 and we will continue up the hill until we reach the top.
This will be an all-day event. The group will cover about 10 miles round trip. After the hike, the everyone is encouraged to meet at Harry’s Roadhouse for an early dinner.
