Join New Mexico Wild and Gila Backcountry Services for a pack mule trip along the Middle Fork of the Gila River in the heart of the Gila Wilderness. We will base camp along the Middle Fork of the Gila River near Jordan Hot Springs, and spend our days exploring some of the wildest lands and canyons in the heart of the Gila Wilderness, while discussing current efforts to permanently protect over 400 river miles in the Gila National Forest as Wild and Scenic Rivers. Expect to encounter outstanding scenery, geology, wildlife and cultural values. Participants should be in healthy physical shape to hike 7 miles to basecamp across elevation gains and losses, numerous river crossings, and uneven terrain in river corridors.
