  • Saturday, September 16, 2017

    to
  • Winsor Trailhead, lower parking lot of Ski Santa Fe

    NM-475 (Hyde Park RD)
16 miles, all the way to the Santa Fe ski area (35°47'44.79"N 105°48'17.59"W)
    Santa Fe, NM (map)

  • Enjoy a late summer hike in the Pecos and lend your support to Wilderness stewardship at the same time. Bernard Tibbetts, Santa Fe Community Organizer for the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, is leading a series of stewardship projects following scenic mountain trails that lead to the beautiful La Vega meadow at the base of Santa Fe Baldy.

This event is one in a series of service projects organized by the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, in collaboration with the Santa Fe National Forest, and partially funded by a generous grant from REI, who encourages the local community to engage in trail stewardship activities in New Mexico's Wilderness and roadless areas.

Participants will perform light brushing and clearing  work along Trail 101 (Lower Nambe trail) using pruners and other light tools while others will perform cross-cutting and removal of larger trees using cross-cutting tools.

Trail stewardship should not be drudgery. This outing will be mostly hiking (approximately 6-7 miles) with some work along the way. The work will range from easy to moderate to strenuous. Join in and do the task that best matches your ability and desire.
