Ongoing Stewardship Opportunity in the Pecos!
At Pecos Canyon, New Mexico
New Mexico Wild is seeking to support the Upper Pecos Watershed Association’s (UPWA) Adopt-a-Site Program to tackle growing environmental challenges in Pecos Canyon caused by increased visitation, including litter accumulation and wildfire risks from unextinguished campfires.
Why It Matters
Pecos Canyon is one of the most beautiful and heavily visited areas in New Mexico, but without regular upkeep, our shared public lands suffer. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to actively steward one of these key sites throughout 2025:
• Dalton Day Use
• Dalton Fishing Site
• Dalton Canyon
• Rainy Day
• Windy Bridge
• Cowles
By adopting a site, volunteers will play a direct role in keeping these areas clean and safe for visitors and wildlife alike.
What Volunteers Will Do
Each adopted site will have a dedicated group or individual responsible for:
• Conducting ongoing, bi-monthly cleanups (estimated 10+ bags of litter per site per month)
• Monitoring fire risks and reporting abandoned campfires
• Maintaining waste stations to ensure proper trash disposal
What We Provide
• Training and guidance on best stewardship practices
• Cleanup supplies (trash bags, gloves, and pet waste bags)
