Help us minimize campsite footprints in the White Mountain Wilderness!
From 8:00 am until 5:00 pm
At White Mountains Wilderness
We're hosting a 2 day, 1 night volunteer project to rehabilitate and dismantle campsites in the White Mountain Wilderness! With your help, we'll work to minimize the impact and footprint of large campsites in this beautiful and wild Wilderness area.
The Plan
Wilderness Rangers will meet on September 15th at the Big Bonito Tr. No. 36/Argentina Tr. No. 39 Trailhead (off of Bonito Lake Rd) at 8 am to provide training for volunteers and distribute tools. Volunteers are welcome to camp out with Wilderness Rangers the night before if interested!
We’ll work on rehabilitating the dispersed campgrounds near the trailhead to start the morning of the 15th. After campsite rehabilitation is complete in this area, we will head out on a short overnight backpacking loop to rehabilitate campsites along Crest Trail No. 25 (roughly 7 miles total - 3.5 miles out & 3.5 miles back). We will get back to the trailhead in the early afternoon of the 16th.
Please be sure to bring all necessary backpacking equipment and meals, water, sunscreen, gloves, and sturdy footwear. NM Wild will provide extra snacks, water, and necessary PPE/tools.
Difficulty of project: moderate
Number of days and nights: 2 days, 1 night
