Latino Conservation Week Event – Habitat Restoration Project & Bosque Nature Walk

22Sep2024

From 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm

At Valle del Bosque Park

Join us for a day trip into the beautiful wild space in our own backyard, the Middle Rio Grande Bosque!

When: September 22nd from 12-4 pm
Where: Valle del Bosque Park (480 Sunset Rd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105)
Project info: We will be seeding native plants, treating areas affected by invasive plants, and watering areas of existing native vegetation.

In celebration of Latino Conservation Week, New Mexico Wild and the City of Albuquerque's Open Space are partnering to gather members of the community for a volunteer service project rewilding this special habitat. Under the guidance of our Open Space partners, we will take a nature walk to learn about the flora and fauna that call this area home, and then we will spend some time seeding native plants, treating areas affected by invasive plants, and watering areas of existing native vegetation.

We will meet at Valle del Bosque Park and walk to our work site in the bosque trail system. It's 0.3 miles, about a 5-7 minute walk in from the parking area to the site. Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes for safety since we will be using rakes and shovels. Please dress in layers to be protected from the sun and prepared for a wide range of temperatures, as the weather in the bosque is highly variable during the fall season. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water. Work gloves will be available, but feel free to bring your own if you have them. All necessary tools, extra water, and snacks will be provided.
