Mining Threats & The Roadless Rule Presentation in Northern NM

6:00 pm
Taos Democratic Party Headquarters

Join New Mexico Wild for an urgent community presentation featuring Garrett VeneKlasen, New Mexico Wild’s Northern Conservation Director, on the escalating mining threats facing northern New Mexico’s public lands.

President Trump’s Executive Order 14156, “Declaring a National Energy Emergency,” and the Department of Interior’s Fast 41 Program have fast-tracked mining exploration on federal public lands in northern New Mexico. The proposed uranium mine near Canjilón stands as an urgent example of this threat. Weakening federal land, water, and cultural protections, including the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act, as well as rescinding critical upland protections like the Roadless Rule, are part of the Trump administration’s playbook to open the door for foreign mining companies to potentially destroy our precious watersheds.

New Mexico Wild will cover all of these issues and inform attendees on how to fight back against these threats to our community.

When: Friday, June 5 | 6:00 PM

Where: Taos Democrat Party Headquarters (729-A Paseo del Pueblo Sur, Taos, 87571)
