Join New Mexico Wild and Runners for Public Lands to improve access to this cherished trail system! New Mexico Wild’s crosscut saw-certified rangers will oversee volunteers to clear downfall off trail.
If you have tried to link up the Santa Barbara drainage to Ski Santa Fe, you’ll know that the Skyline Trail from Pecos Baldy Lake to Horsethief Meadows has long needed clearing. Though short in distance, the three-mile section of trail that passes through the Jaroso Fire (2013) burn scar has long been a thorn in the side of hikers, runners, and equestrians.
This will be a four-day, three-night backpacking project with a 5.5 mile/1700’ elevation gain approach to base camp. This project is appropriate to competent hikers with some prior backpacking experience who are up for a strenuous hike and manual labor in remote, backcountry conditions. BYO backpacking gear and food. Work tools, PPE, and instruction will be provided.
