Blog: Help Save the Lobo by Entering the 2027 Wolf Stamp Contest!

2026 Wolf Stamp Winner; Original artwork by Gay Marks

Calling all artists!

New Mexico Wild is now accepting entries for our 2027 Mexican Gray Wolf Conservation Stamp Contest. Painters, illustrators and photographers of every age and skill level are invited to share their vision of the lobo. The winning artwork will become the official 2027 Mexican Wolf Conservation Stamp, and every stamp sold supports Mexican gray wolf conservation and education.

Why it matters this year

Only 317 Mexican gray wolves are known to survive in the wild, and their federal protections could be stripped as soon as December 3. These wolves need everyone in their corner right now, and your art can help us spread the word about the importance of protecting them! New Mexico Wild will keep fighting for Mexican gray wolves and the wild places they call home, because lobos are New Mexico’s own. They were here long before us, and they belong here still.

How to enter

We welcome all two-dimensional drawings, paintings and photographs featuring the Mexican gray wolf. There are two categories: adult, and youth for artists 15 and younger.

  • Artwork must scale to the stamp size: 4.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches tall
  • Submit a high-resolution image of your piece, along with its title, the medium you used, its original dimensions and your contact information
  • Entries must be original work; generative AI will not be accepted
  • Open to U.S. residents
  • Entering more than one piece? Fill out a separate form for each

Submit your artwork by February 26, 2027!

Prizes

  • First place: $500, and your art on the 2027 stamp
  • Second place: $250
  • Third place and People’s Choice: a New Mexico Wild swag pack
  • Youth first place: $50 and a copy of Wild Guide: Passport to New Mexico Wilderness

Winners will be contacted by email on March 29, 2027, and announced publicly on March 30, 2027. Full rules are on the contest page.
